Piet Ntema: A Journey of Resilience and Inspiration
Born on the 22nd of September in the Ventersburg district, Piet Ntema’s life began in the embrace of adversity. Raised by a single mother and three loving grannies, he learned the value of strength and perseverance from an early age. With limited resources but an unyielding determination, he embarked on a path that would lead him to remarkable achievements.
He started his primary school at a farm school named, Wonderkop primary school up to standard 2 (grade 4) and completed his primary education at Moso primary school in 1992. In 1997, Piet completed his matric at Bahale Secondary School in Phonomolong Hennenman. It was a milestone that marked the beginning of his educational journey. Fueled by ambition and a thirst for knowledge, he wasted no time in pursuing his dreams. In 1999, he commenced his first degree at the prestigious former Vista University in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
Driven by an unwavering work ethic and an indomitable spirit, Piet excelled in his studies. With unparalleled dedication, he completed his degree in record time, graduating in 2002. The remarkable speed with which he achieved this milestone served as a testament to his resilience and determination.
Eager to expand his horizons and deepen his expertise, Piet continued his academic pursuits. In 2010, he obtained a BSc Honours degree in Statistics from the esteemed University of Free State. Undeterred by the challenges that lay before him, he furthered his studies at Northwest University, earning an MSc degree in 2014. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to pursue a PhD in Operational Research Studies, which he accomplished in 2022.
While his academic achievements alone would have been enough to distinguish him, Piet’s passion for community and his desire to make a positive impact compelled him to do more. In 2003, he pursued a Higher Diploma in Education, preparing himself to impart knowledge and shape young minds. He began his career as an educator, serving in various schools such as Matseripe Secondary School and Akademia High School until 2010.
In 2010, Piet ventured into the higher education sector, joining North-West University (NWU) as a junior lecturer. His dedication and expertise soon earned him a promotion to the position of lecturer. In 2015, he took on the responsibility of Subject Chair for the Statistics subject group, demonstrating his commitment to the advancement of his field.
Piet’s passion for research and innovation led him to become an emerging researcher in Statistics education. His work has been showcased at numerous international conferences, including a recent one held in Valencia, Spain. He has also contributed to conference proceedings and reputable journals, solidifying his reputation as a valuable contributor to the academic community.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Piet discovered his talent for writing and motivation. In 2015, he published his first book titled “Inspirational Quotes: Winning Your Share out of Life,” followed by “Acronyms to Live By” in 2017. In 2018, his third book, “The Paths of Relationships,” was released, with a fourth book, “The Sunrise of the Underdogs,” currently in progress. Through his writing, Piet seeks to inspire others and provide them with the tools to overcome challenges and embrace their full potential.
Outside the realm of academia and writing, Piet is a man of many talents and passions. He obtained his skipper license in July 2018, showcasing his love for adventure and exploration. Additionally, he is an avid sportsman, engaging in activities such as volleyball, table tennis, and softball. His dedication to physical fitness and his desire to push his limits mirror his unwavering commitment to personal growth and development.
Yet, it is Piet’s unwavering dedication to helping others that truly sets him apart. As a certified life coach, mentor, and motivational speaker, he has dedicated his life to uplifting and empowering those around him. His infectious enthusiasm and genuine desire to make a difference inspire others to strive for greatness.
